Simple inexpensive office desk chairs were used in the initial versions of this simulator. Some flight simulator enthusiasts use automobile seats that allow for forward and aft adjustment on a rail. Others use retired real aircraft seats or purchase simulator seats that are replicas of the seats used in the real aircraft.
J-Rails
The real B737NG aircraft has a large pedestal between the captain’s seat and the first officer’s seat. If a pilot’s seat simply moved fore and aft, getting into the seat would be difficult and require stepping over the pedestal. In the actual aircraft, once the seat slides aft, the rail has a curve that causes the seat to slide to the side of the flight deck. This allows the pilot to be able to maneuver between the pedestal and seat.

This flight simulator uses replica seats from Flight Deck Solutions. The seats use a “J” rail mounting system that emulates the real aircraft crew seats. They have an internal motor that allows for adjustment of seat height. Their structure and appearance closely emulate the real aircraft seats. They are blue/grey in color with real sheepskin covers.
