ActiveSky is an simulator add-on software product that significantly enhances the flight simulation experience by providing realistic and dynamic weather. Prepar3D’s default weather system is somewhat limited, so many simmers turn to ActiveSky for a more immersive and accurate environment. The software application can be installed on the secondary computer with weather data injected into the main flight simulator software through the computer’s Ethernet network.
ActiveSky pulls real-world weather data and injects it into the sim, giving real-time weather conditions based on the aircraft’s location. It creates realistic weather transitions and accurate depictions of weather systems like thunderstorms, turbulence, and visibility changes. It reduces abrupt changes in weather, clouds, and wind, making transitions smoother, which is critical for realism. It allows creation of custom weather or the use historical weather data for specific dates and times, perfect for flight training scenarios. It adds realistic turbulence, updrafts, and wind shear effects, which improve the realism of aircraft behavior. It also provides radar reflection data to ProSim737, so that the radar returns on the flight deck ND display will show realistic radar images that reflect precipitation.
