Audio & Speakers

Rather than use the TV display speakers, this simulator uses two dedicated speaker systems, each one with a powered subwoofer.

The simulator produces sound in two main categories:

External sounds
Internal sounds

External Speakers

The external speakers are for sounds that originate from outside the flight deck. There are output from the main simulator computer from Prepar3D. Examples are: engine noise, wind noise, etc.

Two Audioengine A2+ powered speakers and a large, powered subwoofer are used for the external sounds. The speakers are placed outside the flight deck in the front corners of the simulator room. Speakers with a USB audio input were specifically chosen. Standard analog speaker output from the computer, even with high quality shielded cables, picks up EMF noise due to the large amount cables (three external and six internal displays, Ethernet, USB devices, power) that are necessary for the simulator.

Internal Speakers

The internal speakers are for sounds that originate inside or near the flight deck. These are output from the secondary computer from the ProSim737 Audio Module. Examples are: GPWS alerts, altitude callouts, stick shaker, overspeed clacker, etc.

Two Logitech speakers and a powered subwoofer are placed inside the flight deck shell but hidden from view behind the plastic interior liner.
